Oakley Pro Junior Global Challenge

Bali Indonesia
7 - 17 October 2009

Good run of swell forecast

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 October, 2009 : - - Foothill Ranch, Ca -- Surf forecasts predict contestable conditions for the beginning of the 10-day holding period for the second annual Oakley Pro Junior Global Challenge in Bali, Indonesia, October 7-17, 2009. Starting small in the 3-5 foot range in the beginning of the week, the Southwest swell is expected to increase in size and consistency and clean up into the weekend and early next week.

Only four days are needed to complete the $75,000 junior men’s contest where 18 of the world’s best juniors will battle head-to-head in man-on-man World Tour format for the largest prize purse in junior surfing.

Dewa Made Ardika (Kuta, Bali, Indonesia) has been awarded a coveted wildcard into the event.  The 19-year-old Bali local has high hopes of meeting Clay Marzo in the final and taking home the $20,000 grand prize.  With 12 surfers from the six qualifying events and five wildcards named, only one wildcard remains available. The final wildcard will be awarded to the winner of a local trial event on the first day of competition.

The Oakley Pro Junior Global Challenge is a unique specialty series launched by Oakley in 2008 to give young surfers the opportunity to compete at some of the best surfing locales around the world. After a hugely successful inaugural year, the 2009 series acquired international momentum and qualifying became a main priority for many of the world’s top juniors.
