Late News Flash: Tropical Storm Henri forms in the Atlantic (no influence on Billabong Pro Mundaka)
Tropical Storm Henri has formed in the Atlantic well east of the Leeward Islands. Maximun sustained winds are 40 mph and the storm is moving to the WNW at 15 mph. Henri is not expected to intensify or affect any islands. Southwesterly shear aloft will tend to tear the storm apart and it may only last for 24 to 36 hours.
Billabong Pro Mundaka receives no benefit waves from Tropical Storm Grace Tropical Storm races past Spain/France and has now dissipated south of Ireland
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 October, 2009 : - - On Monday Tropical Storm Grace raced across the northeastern Atlantic on a path toward the British Isles and was absorbed by a cold front off Ireland. The remnants of Tropical Storm Grace became absorbed within a frontal boundary near Ireland Monday evening and lost its tropical characteristics.
Grace, the seventh named storm of the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season, formed far out in the northeastern Atlantic and was packing winds of near 65 miles per hour. Weather Underground described the emergence of Grace as an anomaly, saying it was the farthest northeast an Atlantic tropical storm had ever formed since satellite observations began in the 1960s.
The 2009 Atlantic hurricane season has been quiet, producing only seven named storms so far, of which only two, Bill and Fred, turned into hurricanes, although neither seriously threatened populated areas or oil facilities. The Atlantic Basin shows little activity in the way of potential tropical development at this time.

As of Tuesday morning, EDT, the center of Tropical Storm Parma was located over the northwestern corner of Luzon Island, Philippines, within 35 miles of Laoag City. Top winds of Parma were 60 to 65 mph with storm movement to the southeast at less than 5 mph.
Light steering winds mean that Parma will hover in, or near, northern Luzon for at least another 24-48 hours. Although this will preclude the return to typhoon status on the part of Parma, proximity to land will keep torrential rain directed against the western side of northern Luzon. Thus, areas that have already received 1-3 feet of rain could get another 1-2 feet of rain before the storm leaves later in the week.

The eye of Typhoon Melor was located about 200 miles east-southeast of Naha, Okinawa, Japan. Maximum sustained winds were still near 125 mph, or those of a top end Category 3 hurricane. Storm movement was towards the north-northwest at 16 mph.
Melor will veer north and northeast east of Okinawa and the other Ryukyu Islands during Tuesday, EDT, while weakening further. On Wednesday, EDT, further veering towards the northeast will lead to a landfall upon southern Honshu between Osaka and Tokyo on the mainland of Japan.
