Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 October, 2009 : - - EuroSIMA, the European Boardsports Industry Manufacturers Association, and the EuroSIMA Cluster, launched this year, two innovation competitions aiming at simulating and supporting technological and ecological innova! on in the boardsports sector: the EuroSIMA Innovation Award and a Call for Innovation Projects.
The EuroSIMA Innovation Award is open to EuroSIMA members only, and aims at rewarding fi nished and innovative projects. The call for projects is open to all, and its objective is to assist innova! ve projects in their development. A jury of professionals, experts and compe! ! on partners (cf. jury composi! on below) met last September to study applica! ons and select the winners.
EUROSIMA INNOVATION AWARD The 2009 EuroSIMA Innova! on Award winner is the brand FCS, which received 5000 euros for its Green Flex project. FCS uses postconsumer material to develop a new fi n material that maintains the strength and fl ex proper! es equal to the classic fi ns. The EuroSIMA call for innova! on projects awarded two ini! a! ves: a technological innova! on project and an ecological innova! on project.
* Winning technological innova! on project. The combination of skills between Stark Surfboards and Atua.Cores has been profi table since it has enabled both companies to work together to improve the technical proper! es of surboard foams. The result of this collabora! on is the birth of the “Pheno EPS foam” technology which consists in replacing the central stringer of sur$ oard foams by carbon stringers giving the sur$ oard greater flexibility and dynamism.
* Winning ecological innova! on project. The eco-friendly GreenFIX surfwax is a petrochemically-free product developed from natural and renewable resources. Beyond its environmental quali! es, which not alter the performance of the wax, the innova! ve nature of this product lies in its resistance to heat. Indeed, the mel! ng point of the GreenFIX wax is above 60 °C - unmatched resistance in this fi eld. Moreover, the shape of the wax bar, in form of a comb for easy applica! on, makes it an ideal accessory for surfers.
Both projects received a grant of 5000 euros and will beneficiate from the Cluster partners’ assistance to help them in the development of their projects.
