Hellifish Surf Series

Volcom Qualifying Series
Citepus Beach-West Java
4 October 2009

Volcom Stone’s Hellifish goes off at Citepus

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 October, 2009 : - - It’s the fifth time visits to this beloved spot in West Java and this time around its charm still not fade and we just love this area. Spot with plethora of good waves, beautiful scenery and friendly locals who have been very good friends along these years of our event in this territory.

We moved the initial spot from Cimaja to Citepus beach following the suggestion of our local organizer to seek another challenge of different wave characteristic. It’s a very good idea to train the kids reacting and deal with a little change in daily challenge.

As the competition rolls started with 14 and Under division, the domination already shown by one of the local surfers name Andre Julia, note that he was in second position at VQS final this year, showing what he does best. Followed in second position with huge point gap was Teguh Widodo, third was Dennis and Handi Juliandi although fought it pretty well has to satisfy with his last position in this category.

Tight games put out by two of the 17 and Under division’s surfers, Ryan Hidayat and Dede Arifin. Lucky for Dede Arifin, at the last minutes he got a long wave created some extra points though it wasn’t such a big point difference, he was the king of the 17 and Under division. Went home with Volcom package and bag of grip, leash and wax from our sponsor, Jungle Surf store. The rest of the finalists in this category managed to get themselves place in Bali for the final are Ryan Hidayat finished second, Ruslandi and Irwansyah in third and fourth place.

Pro-Am was really a head turning competition, the winner from the 14 and Under division, Andre Julian, joined the battle along with Aput Saprudin, Ryan Hidayat from the 17 and Under division, as well as Suparman who only eligible to join this category at Pro-Am. For Andre Julian, this is a show off battle, he stormed to get second place against the big guys.

But for sure it was the show of Aput Saprudin who seemed to be more experienced than the rest of the lads. Reigned for the throne of Pro-Am division. A full bag of goodies from Volcom and Jungle Surf store was sweet prize to take home. Rest of the contestants got tickets to Bali and that’s a good deal too for third and fourth place.
