Clay Marzo will participate in the event, his first contest in Spain

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 October, 2009 : - - Lanzarote, Canary Islands -- The Islas Canarias Santa Pro 2009, Six Star Prime  WQS, is the last professional surfing event of the year in Europe.  The event will take place in the island of Lanzarote, Canary Islands (Spain), from the first to the seventh of November.

The contest will be in the peak of San Juan, which has a volcano reef and is situated in the North-West of the island. It is in that coast of Lanzarote where the conditions are the best for surfing, from the town of La Santa to the village of Famara.

This year, the competition has a really special rider. For the first time, Clay Marzo (U.S.A, Quiksilver) is participating in a contest in Europe. People has never had the opportunity to see him surfing in Spain, and in two weeks this young surfer will arrive to the Canaries to try to repeat his victory of Puerto Escondido, México.

Kelly Slater, nine times champion of the world, declared to the newspaper U.S.A. Today that “Marzo knows things I don´t know. He knows things that all the guys I´m surfing with don´t know”. Besides, the director of the film “Just Add to water”, Jaimie Tierney, confessed after recording the movie about the life of Marzo that “Clay makes instant natural connections with the water”.

Some of the surfers taking part in the contest of Lanzarote are Nic Muscroft (AUS), Marlon Lipke (DEU), Drew Courtney (AUS),), Patrick Gudauskas (USA), Brett Simpson, (USA), Owen Wright (AUS), Heitor Alvés (BRZ), Joan Duru (FRC),  Parick, Dean and Tanner Gudauskas (U.S.A), Liam McNamara (HAW) .

The spanish surfers participating in the competition are Eneko Acero (EUK), Aritz Aranburu (EUK), Jonathan Gonzalez (CNY), José María Cabrera (CNY), Hodei Collazo (EUK), Goni Zubizarreta (ESP), Francisco Saénz (CNY), Leny Perdomo (CNY), Eduardo Fernández, Christian Jiménez (CNY), Antonio Marqués, Carlos Marqués and Miguel Ximénez.
