'Bustin Down the Door' and 'Searching for Michael Peterson' play Noosa and Coolum
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 October, 2009 : - - Two of the most acclaimed surf documentaries in recent years will show as a double bill at Noosa and Coolum in November, along with a special guest appearance by surfing legend Wayne 'Rabbit' Bartholomew, and live music by Pico. These great nights out are a presentation of the Noosa Festival of Surfing.
“Bustin’ Down The Door”, co-produced by Shaun Tomson, tells the dramatic story of two seasons on Hawaii’s North Shore more than 30 years ago that changed the face of surfing. In 1975 and 1976, Shaun, Rabbit, Mark Richards, Peter Townend and others launched their famous backside attack at Pipeline, just as the formation of the world pro tour put a new media focus on the sport. They never imagined that their love of radical surfing would put their lives on the line.
“Searching for Michael Peterson” is film-maker Jolyon Hoff’s moving tribute to the great MP, exploring for the first time the reason for his dominance of world surfing in the ‘70s, and his abrupt departure from the scene. Rabbit Bartholomew, 1978 world champion and the long-time leader of world pro surfing, is a key figure in both these documentaries, and will give his first-hand account and answer questions from the audience.
With a significant following within the surf music fraternity in Australia and overseas, Pico has established a name for himself since the launch of his debut album ‘Ghost Flowers’ ten years ago. His latest, ‘Morning Sun’, is getting big airplay all over the country. His intimate, yet powerful lyrics and music give each of his songs a unique interpretation of universal themes from the feeling of the morning ocean spray on your face to the plight of the whales that share this ocean.
Pico and his band will play between movies, rounding out a great night’s entertainment. Full bar and meals available at both venues, 18s and over only. (The organisers request that patrons drink responsibly and do not drink and drive.)
