Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 October, 2009 : - - The First switch-foot book was released in 2005 and got author, Andrew Crockett, inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame when he won the 'media award.'Switch-foot was different then and 'switch-foot II' has s similar feel, but is 50% bigger with 368 pages.
Distribution is what you would expect from one guy working from home in the hills of Northern NSW Australia, it is available from his website posted to your door, and available in the select surf shops that support independent productions. Author/producer Andrew Crockett worked on this book full time for 4 years and conducted over 100 interviews. switch-foot has a unique place in the surfing world, the ethos is about everything to do with the ‘non -competitive’ side of surfing.
switch-foot has a strong core in historical photographs from the 1960’s and 1970’s with most of Australia’s leading surfing photographers from that era supporting the switch-foot books. switch-foot II has 90 contributors from around the world, many of them are ‘legends’ of surfing, there are over 1000 unique images and 368 pages.
Professional surfer and environmental activist describes switch-foot II as ''turning through the book is like sitting under a wise old tree that gives shade and shelter for the soul, and ripe fruit for thought.'' David Rastovich.
Author Andrew Crockett says ‘I cannot believe the enthusiasm from the public for this new book, it is a real stoke to know that the public even know it exists. I thought it was underground. The first book had 50 contributors and was 210 pages long, switch-foot II is 368 pages and there are 90 contributors. It is massive and I am very appreciative of all the contributors, especially the older folk, who have allowed me to interview them and run their classic photographs.’
Crockett also describes the book as 'a megalith of stoke.'
internet surfers can view a short 2 minute movie about the contents on the website and have the book posted to their door, signed by the author for $90 if they live in Australia. US surfers will have to wait until 2010 to get the book, or pay hefty international frieght on this heavy item.
switch-foot II is available now at switch-foot.com but orders will not be posted until November 17th.
