November Pro international surfing classic coming up

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 October, 2009 : - - The Barbados Surfing Association in partnership with the Caribbean Surf Network invites you to participate in the November Pro international surfing classic, an exciting annual event which attracts athletes from all over the world to one of the Caribbean’s premiere surf breaks, the Soup Bowl, Bathsheba.

The contest will be held on Saturday November 28th, Sunday November 29th and Monday November 30th from 7 am.  There will be Four (4) Divisions, the Open Men’s Division, the Open Women’s Division and the Under 21 Junior Boys Division and Body Boarding.

It is a great privilege for the BSA and the CSN to host this event as a means of further developing the sport of surfing in all its forms both locally and regionally. This type of event gives surfers from across the Caribbean the opportunity to interact, forge new friendships and push their surfing skills to new levels.

Entry Fees and Prizes: The entry fee for the Open men and Women’s is US$85 with a total prize purse of Bds$20,000 (US$10,000). All other divisions US$30 A surfer competing in more than one Division is required to pay an Entry Fee for each Division entered. These fees are to be paid in CASH (either US or Barbados Dollars). Registration: Registration will take place at the Edgewater Hotel, Bathsheba on Friday, November 27th  between 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

CONTEST SITE

The venue is “Soup Bowl” at the scenic Bathsheba Beach located on the East Coast of Barbados.  “Soup Bowl” is the premier right point surf break on the island.  Regarded as one of the top 10 spots for 9-Time World Champion Surfer Kelly Slater, “Soup Bowl” has a reputation for providing the most consistent high performance surf in the Caribbean.

CONDITIONS IN NOVEMBER

Air Temp:  24° C - 31° C

Water Temp:  24° C Avg

Climate:  Strong tropical sunshine is the norm so bring the necessary SUNBLOCK.

Surfboards:  High Performance Boards are recommended.

Swell:  East, East North East, Right Point Break

Swell Size:  3-5 feet; 6 plus feet occasionally (very likely in November)

Clothes:  T-Shirt, Baggies, head and eye protection

Sunrise-Sunset:  5:30 am - 6:15 pm.

ACCOMMODATION

All participants are advised to check entry requirements for Barbados.  No VISA are required for stays under 3 months. The BSA will assist surfers with accommodation if necessary (US$25 - $75 per night).  The following is a list of available accommodations.

·   Private House rentals (2-3 bedroom houses)

·   Edgewater Hotel (Hotel room)

·   SEA U guest house (Dormitory/Rooms)

·   Coconut Court Hotel

·    Silver Sands Hotel

Each Competitor will be responsible for individual meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).  There are local shops, a supermarket and restaurants in the area.

Nov 26-27       Arrival days

Nov 27            Registration:  1 pm - 7 pm – Edgewater Hotel

Nov 27            7:00 pm – Officials’ Meeting (Contest Director, Beach Marshals, Tabulators, Timers):

                        7:30 pm - Judges Meeting with Head  Judge  - Edgewater

Nov 28            DAY #1 OF SURFING CONTEST – from 8:00am (subject to change)

Nov 29            DAY #2 OF SURFING CONTEST – from 8:00am (subject to change)

Nov 30            DAY #3 OF SURFING CONTEST

Dec1-2            Departure Days

Travel Itineraries: Please submit to BSA Secretary by November 23rd.  Ground transportation can be arranged at a reasonable cost if necessary. Judges Panel:   There will be an international judging panel of seven (7) qualified, experienced judges from the US, South America and the Caribbean plus the Head Judge.

The Head Judge is Mr. Elvis Carter, a highly qualified, experienced judge who has fulfilled this role successfully over the past several years and who has recently returned from judging the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games. The 2009 ISA Judging criteria will be used
