Surfers exchange flame in Olympic torch relay

Canadian Surfing Trivia: Tim Boal 2009 World Tour Surfer is son of an Irish immigrant to Canada

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 November, 2009 : - - Surfer Raph Bruhwiler, right, falls as he receives the Olympic flame from surfer Ruth Sadler, center, 72, after she walked into the Pacific Ocean to meet him during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games torch relay in Pacific Rim National Park near Tofino, B.C., on Sunday Nov. 1, 2009. Bruhwiler then surfed to shore. (AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Darryl Dyck)

Editor's note:

Surfing & Canada have been big in the news recently with local Tofino surfer Peter Devries shining brightly and winning the O'Neill Cold Water Classic Canada 6 star ASP WQS event last Saturday

Another little known Canadian Surfing fact;, Tim Boal 2009 ASP World Tour surfer is the son on an Irish immigrant to Canada. His fater immigrated to British Columbia and knew Tofino long before surfing ever appeared on the scene. His father in fact was instrumental in the introductytion of Windsurfing to parts of British Columbia.

Tim was born in Philipsburg St Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, while his parents were travelling around the world on their saling boat. He subsequently first jumped on to a surfboard in St Barths French West Indies at the age of three.
