South Coast Surf Carnival
presented by Jeep Apparel and Independent

Top junior surfers gear up for the 2009 South Coast Surf Carnival presented
by Jeep Apparel and Independent on Saturday

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 November, 2009 : - -South Africa's up and coming junior surfers will be flocking to the seaside town of Scottburgh for the highly anticipated South Coast Surf Carnival which will kick off on 7th and 8th November at Scottburgh main beach. The event has over the years become the platform for South Africa's rising stars as it is one of KZN's few premier watersport events which is dedicated to longboarding, Kitesurfing, Stand-up -paddleboarding "SUP" and for the first time this year Kayak fishing.

The carnival now in its seventh year has reintroduced a juniors division to the SALSA (South African Longboard Surfing Association) sanctioned Longboarding element. Leading the charge will be current South Africa junior longboarding champ Scott Lefevre (Umhlanga) who will be looking to snatch another title to add to his belt. Hot on his heels will be Kane Bennewith (Dbn) and Jago England (Dbn) who will be set on making names for themselves.

In the kitesurfing event we will see one of the country's up rising star kitesurfers Bryce Rawlins (Umhlanga) returning to defend his junior title. The kitesurfing component is the longest running kitesurfing event in the country and will be taking place at Scottburgh Main beach in front of the Cutty Sark Hotel. This sport is much like surfing with riders pushing the limits. This contest will be run as a wave riding event judged similar to surfing whilst competitors will use the kite to generate high performance manoeuvres.

"Entries are coming in thick and fast from all over the country. The South Coast Surf Carnival has become a popular event on the national calendar, and is as exciting to watch as it is to surf in. With most of the country's top junior longboard surfers already registered, there will be some fierce
competition to be seen in this division. With a strict longboard surfing criteria being adhered to this year, there is a distinct possibility of a few new names coming through to upset the apple-cart," commented contest director Hugh Thompson.

Over and above the contest action will be surfing lessons provided by uShaka Surf and Adventures. The clinics are open to all who would like to learn to surf and who would like go on a Stand up paddleboard in the lagoon.  The clinics will be run by qualified instructors and is a great introduction to
the world of surfing for the uninitiated.

The South Coast Carnival is sponsored by Tourism South Coast, Jeep Appare and Independent on Saturday. Contributing sponsors to the event are Island Style, Pick'n Pay Scottburgh, Bilt Surfboards, Thermo Plastic Concepts & Equipment (TCE), Maisch Fins, Nestle Pure Life Water,  Natural Curve
surfboards, Bokomo, Ocean 2 Air Kitesurfing, Southern Comfort J Bay Accommodation, Cyclone Kiteboarding, Pro Class Wetsuits, uShaka Surf and
Adventures, Phat Boys , Specsavers , Glaceau Vitamin Water and Aunty YO's
