King O’ Jax Surf Challenge

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 November, 2009 : - - The Florida Surfing Association is excited to announce and host the inaugural King O’ Jax surfing contest, which will be held on Thanksgiving weekend. The event’s venue will be the South side of Jacksonville Beach pier and will have a 3 day waiting period. The waiting period days will be scheduled for November 27-29th to insure the best surfing conditions possible for the event. All competitors can stay updated through www.floridasurfing.org. The King O’ Jax will be an exciting Pro contests that is introducing a new concept and a unique format.

The King O’ Jax will be presented by Surf The Pier Live webcam and Paco’s Mexican Grill. The competitors for the contest will be voted in through a public online polling system; the top 16 surfers with the most votes will receive an invitation into the event. Surfers will be ranked for the heat drawing based on their total online votes, with four alternates ready to take a stab at becoming “King” if anyone backs down. The surfer with the most fan votes will also receive $100 cash.

The event allows each surfer to surf 5 times no one surfer is eliminated from the competition.  Surfers will draw from a pile of custom made King playing cards to start each round. The surfers who pull red suited cards will select from the surfers who selected a black suited card. Each surfer will pick who they want to surf against for each round. Every surfer will surf 5 man on man 20 minute heats and have the opportunity to rake in $50 each time they beat their opponent. In addition, the surfer’s top scoring wave from each round will be tabulated at the end of the event; the surfer with the highest point total will win an additional $100.

The fun and excitement doesn’t stop there, FREE FLOW lines will be at the event showing off their core balance product and there will be plenty of food on the beach provided by Sonny’s BBQ, Papa John’s Pizza and BoJangles chicken. The event will be broadcasted live via internet. Following the event Paco’s Mexican Grill will be hosting an after party where the King O’ Jax will be crowned! In addition, Paco’s will have a live band, raw event footage, and tons of prizes and items from sponsoring companies such as PILOT and many more to giveaway and raffle off! For a small donation you can be entered into raffles to win some cool gear with net proceeds going to a selected charity. The voters who selected the winning surfer to be King O’ Jax will be entered into a raffle to win a getaway stay for two in Costa Rica provided by Nosara Paradise Rentals!
