ASP WQS Situation Room - Monday, November 2, 2009
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 November, 2009 : - - Coolangatta, Queensland - The big news this week is that Australia’s Harley Ingleby is the new ASP World Longboard Champion.
Pasta Point in the Maldives turned on some great surf for the ASP Oxbow World Longboard Championship decider and as Harley’s main rivals, Duane DeSoto and Bonga Perkins lost early, it was down to the Quarterfinals where Harley had to defeat former ASP World Longboard Champ Phil Razjman to clinch the title.
Harley did win and went on to the Final to nearly make it a clean sweep after winning in Japan, but was upset by Hawaii’s Kai Sallas and had to settle for second.
The Top 16 on the final ratings and the seeded invites for 2010 ASP events are:
1 Ingleby,Harley AUS 2232 2 Sallas,Kai HAW 1610 3 Delpero,Antoine FRA 1608 4 Rajzman,Phil BRA 1608 5 Perkins,Bonga HAW 1476 6 Snow,Ned HAW 1476 7 Bage,Eduardo BRA 1464 8 De Soto,Duane HAW 1442 9 McPhillips,Colin USA 1332 10 Skinner,Ben GBR 1332 11 Jensen,Taylor USA 1200 12 Matos,Amaro BRA 1200 13 Edwards,Keegan HAW 1142 14 Arauzo,Remi FRA 1142 15 Moir,Matthew ZAF 1010 16 Young,Bryce AUS 1010
On the ASP WQS, a great win for local Canadian surfer Peter Devries in the inaugural O’Neill Cold Water Classic held at Tofino. Peter out-pointed Jay Thompson in the man-on-man Final with equal thirds being Cory Lopez and Brandon Jackson.
Even though this event was an ASP WQS 6-Star, there was not much movement in the top end of ratings worth noting, except Brandon Jackson moving from 20th to 15th and Jay Thompson from 31st to 19th.
Points wise, also not much in the way of changes and it is looking like the cutoff point may be lower than the expected 12,500, However, this week we have the Santa Pro, Canaries and O’Neill CWC, Santa Cruz ASP WQS 6-Star Prime events sharing a lot of points so it’s make or break time before heading into Hawaii where the big points will have to be shared with the ASP Top 45 and local Hawaiian’s who don’t really need the points.
Current Top 20 rated are: Ross,Daniel AUS 1 14975 Andre,Jadson BRA 2 14813 Wright,Owen AUS 3 14338 Gudauskas,Patrick USA 4 13876 Melling,Adam AUS 5 13026 Simpson,Brett USA 6 12600 Thornton,Blake AUS 7 12325 Wilkinson,Matt AUS 8 12150 Duru,Joan FRA 9 12125 Payne,Dusty HAW 10 11925 Logie,Travis ZAF 11 11851 Ware,Austin USA 12 11725 Hall,Glenn IRL 13 11600 Munro,Luke AUS 14 11451 Jackson,Brandon ZAF 15 11431 Dornelles,Rodrigo BRA 16 11350 Cardoso,Willian BRA 17 11151 Gudauskas,Tanner USA 18 11125 Thompson,Jay AUS 19 11001 Zubizarreta,Gony ESP 20 10588
