SEBASTIAN INLET, FLORIDA TO HOST COLLEGIATE SURFING ASSOCIATION’S

2010 FLORIDA STATE AND U.S. EAST COAST COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 November, 2009 : - - The Collegiate Surfing Association is announcing today that Sebastian Inlet, Florida -- one of America’s premier surfing breaks -- will be the site for its 2010 Florida State and U.S. East Coast individual and team Collegiate Championships.  The events will take place over a two-day period between March 7-13, 2010 during a multi-event tournament called Surf Fest 2010.  This week also coincides with or overlaps the spring breaks of most Florida and East Coast colleges and universities.

The Collegiate Surfing Association held its inaugural Southeastern Championships at Sebastian Inlet in January 2009 in an action-packed tourney where Flagler College clipped the University of Central Florida Knights to take the title.  That event proved such a success that CSA officials opted to open up the championships to the entire East Coast in 2010.  “Last year was a homerun as far as we are concerned,” said CSA co-founder Jack Kirschenbaum.  “We’ve received interest from schools up and down the coast over the past several months, and we are hoping to have a dozen or more colleges here in March competing for the East Coast title.”

The CSA was created to give post-secondary education students an arena within which to continue competitive surfing while focusing on achieving collegiate degrees while providing a mechanism for surfing to be incorporated into the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s sanctioned championships.

The Collegiate Surfing Championships, like all major elements of Surf Fest 2010 will be web cast live on www.go211.com .  Major sponsors of the CSA and Surf Fest 2010 include Ron Jon, Red Bull, the Space Coast Board of Tourism, State Farm, Florida State Parks and Ocean Potion.

Surf Fest 2010 is a youthful, family-friendly affair that will run from March 5-14, 2010.  Besides the CSA championships, Surf Fest 2010 will host the first ever Surfing America Prime series event to be held in Florida, a Grade 5 Junior Pro (the biggest in North America and Europe) and the U.S. Masters Professional Championships; an invitational event that will feature America’s best and most iconic surfers age 40 & over.

College surf teams and clubs interested in participating in the 2010 CSA championships should contact Jourdan Moran for additional information and entry forms.   jourdan@collegiatesurf.com
