WQS Updates

ASP WQS Situation Room - Monday, November 9, 2009

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 November, 2009 : - - Coolangatta -- Two big events, new winners and lots of movement in the ratings’ top end this week. Congratulations first to ASP Top 45 surfer Drew Courtney on his maiden ASP win at Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Drew out-pointed Brazil’s Bernardo Miranda in the Final with Eric Rebiere and Patrick Gudauskas in equal 3rd places.

Across the other side of the planet at Santa Cruz was the final event of O’Neill’s CWC series where Nathan Yeomans was victorious defeating Australia’s Heath Joske in the one-sided Final. Equal 3rds were Luke Munro and Alejo Muniz.

Now the ratings...

Top 15 cut off point is now 12,125, well up from last week’s 11,431. I would think this is pretty close to the final cut off with a few hundred more only, so 12,500 should be okay.

The reason why I say only a few hundred more is because the bulk of the top seeds for the two ASP WQS 6-Star Primes in Haleiwa and Sunset are either ASP Top 45 surfers, who don’t need the points, or current Top 15 ASP WQS competitors. Add in the fact that some of the local Hawaiian contingent will also do well and, except for the odd surfer making a Quarterfinal, not much movement should happen in the ratings.

Of course, all the top seeds could fail and a bunch of lower-rated surfers could grab all the points pushing the cut off well up. Possible, but unlikely.
Anyway back to ratings where the Top 5 now have a huge lead over the rest of the pack.

Big movers upwards were Pat Gudauskas from 4th to 2nd, Luke Munro 14th to 6th, Nate Yeomans 22nd to 8th, Drew Courtney 29th to 11th, while downwards Joan Duru ped from 9th to 15th and Blake Thornton, the O’Neill CWC series winner, from 7th to 9th. Most other up or down one or two spots.

Current Top 20 rated are:
Ross,Daniel AUS 1 14975
Gudauskas,Patrick USA 2 14876
Andre,Jadson BRA 3 14813
Wright,Owen AUS 4 14338
