Clark, 38, suffered extensive head, neck and kidney injuries
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 November, 2009 : - - Hurley South Africa and Zigzag surfing magazine are collaborating to raise funds for Heather Clark, the 2008 ISA World Masters and multiple SA surfing champion, who is recovering from life-threatening injuries sustained in a recent motor accident.
Clark, 38, who suffered extensive head, neck and kidney injuries when the car she was driving was snapped in two after being hit in an intersection near her home in Port Shepstone by a car that ignored the red traffic lights, is up and about but still on pain killers despite having the stitches in her head removed last week.
Much loved and admired by everyone she has met during her 22 years of competition surfing, ‘Fergi’, as Heather is universally known, has incurred massive medical bills and is unable to work at the Surf and Swimming schools she has started since retiring from international competition at the end of 2006.
The local and international surfing communities have rallied around one their finest and most endearing members with numerous fund-raisers being held to assist Heather and her family cope with the financial burden imposed due to the accident and her lack of medical insurance.
Hurley SA have stepped up to the plate by providing an authentic Rob Machado signature Biscuit model Channel Islands surfboard, along with a Hurley One & Only Tee-shirt and a pair of the award winning Phantom P120 Boardshorts which are being auctioned on the Bidorbuy website with all proceeds going to Clark. The auction is being promoted on the Zigzag website zigzag.co.za an via the magazine’s email newsletters.
The auction, which started at R1 000 and after 10 bids has risen to R4 550, runs until 16 November. Further information can be found here
