4th annual Morning of the Mo
Balina/Byron New South Wales 21 Movember 2009
Morning of the Mo returns to Ballina - Byron Bay Shire
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 November, 2009 : - - It's back thicker, hairy and more stylish then ever, the 4th Annual Morning of the Mo 2009. After the frenzy of national and international media exposure trailing last years event, surrounding the first perfect 100pt ride by eventual surf format winner 'DES-TROY BROOKS' and the controversial media statement that followed.
Quote: "I cant believe how much time I wasted chasing it (referring to what was previously know as the most sort after trophy in surfing...'The Bell'). For years I busted my arse battling it out on both the WQS and WCT turning in the pocket with a naked lip when all I had to do was get out on the shoulder with a hairy lip in fancy dress and wiggle my way to the beach, I had a hell time and now I've got the MODALLION to prove it! I'm over the moon mate!!"
The field is once again shaping up to be a good one, with entrants from as far as Victoria and from over the ditch in eNZed making the journey all in bid to take home the most respected piece of surfing history 'the modallion' and perpetual 'STYLEMASTERS' Brown Jacket.

MORNING OF THE MO - celebrating movember As part of Movember festivities worldwide and in tribute to surfing's proud history of the moustache, comes the 4th Annual Morning of the Mo, inspired by Albe Falzons classic 70’s surf film, Morning of the Earth. Morning of the Earth transformed the surf movie genre in the late 60's and early 70's as an artistic portrait of counter-culture and alternative lifestyles throughout Australia, Bali, and Hawaii.
Morning of the Mo relives the glory days of Morning of the Earth and is all about returning the mo to surf fashion to help change the face of men's health. Morning of the Mo is a grass roots gathering with all participants required to rock a mo, ride a pre 80s shaped surfboard and dress relevant to the era in order to enter; stage names are encouraged but not essential.
Morning of the Mo is aimed at fun, participation, the mo and uniting surfers to change the face of men's health. We thank Albe Falzon and all the original Morning of the Earth crew for all their inspiration and support.
All proceeds of the event go to Movember's beneficiary partners; The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Beyondblue. Prostate cancer -because every year in Australia 2,700 men die of prostate cancer – more than the number of women who die from breast cancer. Male depression –because one in six men is affected by depression. Most don’t seek help!
Hope to see you all there. Mohalo,
