Queensland Champions Crowned At The 2009 Printpoint Queensland Masters Surfing Circuit

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 November, 2009 : - - North Stradbroke Island, Queensland -- Super Sunday on North Stradbroke Island (Queensland, Australia) was a day to celebrate, with six Queenslanders crowned state surfing champions as the curtain closed on the 2009 Printpoint Queensland Masters Surfing Circuit.

At the end of another day of blue skies, sunshine and excellent 1m waves at Point Lookout’s Main Beach, state champions were decided in six (male) divisions including O/28, O/35, O/40, O/45, O/50 and O/55.

Based on competitors’ best two-of-three results, Mark Richardson - O/28 (Currumbin), Chris Brooks – O/40 (Currumbin) and Peter Buckley – O/55 (Palm Beach) each captured two events throughout the 2009 series, earning maximum ratings points to convincingly claim the state title in their respective divisions.

However, as predicted the real battle was in the O/35’s division, with three title contenders advancing through to today’s division final. Again, it was the ‘Richo-Show’ as the consummate competitor from Currumbin managed to edge out Chris Brooks (Currumbin), Owen Crockett (Airlie beach) and Paul Buratowski (Currumbin), who finished second to fourth respectively in today’s blockbuster final.

In the O/45 Men’s division, David Masters (Currumbin) lived up to his name with a first and second place during the three-event series enough for him to equal Glen Rawlings (Snapper Rocks) on top of the overall ratings in their division.

Meanwhile, after yesterday’s amazing 9.23 ride (out of a possible 10), Paul Ward (Coolangatta) looked to have claimed the coveted XXXX Summer Bright Lager ‘Wave of the Weekend’ prize, however to cap off an already stellar day, Mark Richardson equalled Ward’s score - Subsequently splitting the prize of four cartons of Summer Bright Lager with each surfer sure to enjoy the spoils tonight.
