America’s ASP Dream Tour Hopefuls Gear Up for Vans Triple Crown

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 November, 2009 : - - Huntington Beach -- The Vans Triple Crown, an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Specialty Series, not only carries prestige, but also determines whether several American surfers will qualify for next year’s ASP World Tour. With two ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) 6-Star PRIME events and the final stop on the 2009 ASP Dream Tour as the makeup of the Hawaiian trifecta, several surfers’ seasons come down to make-or-break performances on the North Shore of Oahu.

With ASP Dream Tour surfers including Timmy Reyes (Huntington Beach, CA), 26, and Chris Ward (San Clemente, CA), 30, sitting on the bubble of qualification for 2010, their quest for a spot on next year’s ASP World Tour will be determined by their performance at the Billabong Pro Pipeline Masters.

Reyes, who is currently coming off of his best result of the year with a fifth place finish at the Rip Curl Pro Search, is currently rated World No. 26 and will be hunting for a result at the Billabong Pro Pipeline Masters. Reyes finished third last year at the event, proving a keeper result for the Californian is well within reach.

Ward, who has been known to standout in barreling reef break, is sitting in the No. 37 position and the upcoming Billabong Pro Pipeline Masters will play an integral role on Ward’s final rating amongst the world’s finest competitive surfers.

The Reef Hawaiian Pro and O’Neill World Cup, the first two events on the Vans Triple Crown, play an equally significant role in determining who will find their way on to the 2010 ASP World Tour via the ASP WQS. Tanner Gudauskas (San Clemente, CA), 21, who is currently rated 17th on The Grind and Austin Ware (Solana Beach, CA), 28, who is in the No. 18 position, are currently sitting just outside of the qualification bubble and both surfers will need to stand up to the world’s best ASP WQS talent and most of the ASP World Tour surfers out to claim the prestigious Vans Triple Crown title to climb into one of the top 15 positions on the ASP WQS.

The Vans Triple Crown is currently under way with the ASP WQS 6-Star PRIME Reef Hawaiian Pro and has a waiting period from November 12 through December 20, 2009. For all of the LIVE action log on to triplecrownofsurfing.com
