Billabong Occ Stock & Barrels ready to fire this weekend

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 November, 2009 : - - - Maroubra, NSW -- Billabong are bringing hometown hero and seminal surfing icon Mark “Occy “ Ochilupo back to Cronulla for the inaugural Billabong Occ Stock & Barrels event this November.

Hailing from the Sutherland shire, Occhilupo has always shared a close affinity with the area and having inspired a generation of local youngsters with his amazing accomplishments and achievements, in and out of the water, the 1999 ASP World Champion is looking forward overseeing the next crop of future stars.
 
“I'm looking forward to being in Cronulla to check out the young groms coming through,” Occhilupo said. “Being a place that I grew up surfing I hope that plenty of local crew come down to check it out.” Taking place from Saturday, 20 November the event will see two days of surf, sun and non stop action which will include autograph signings with Occy himself and a chance to win awesome Billabong and Sony prizes.

With three divisions set to be decided, U/16 Boy’s, U/13 Boy’s and U/16 Girls, the action is sure to be of the highest order with the best junior surfers from Bondi to Illawarra competitng for glory "The event is only open to young kids from the Southern Beaches of Sydney so it's about giving them an opportunity to test themselves in a competition."

Headlining the competition will be local Cronulla surfers Rory Jenkins, Chris Robertson and Jesse Horner in the Under 16 Boys division, along with Stanwell Park surfer Rachel Campbell in the Under 16 Girls division and Joshua Szele (Warilla) in the Under 13 Boys. Winners of each of these 3 divisions will then compete in an exclusive grand final with 1999 ASP world champion “Occy” to crown the Occ Stock & Barrels Champion.

Shire locals will also have the opportunity to meet and greet Occy at a special in store appearance and signing session at Cronulla Surf Design at 1pm, Saturday 21st November in the Cronulla Plaza.  Prior to the signing session there will be a concert from 12-1pm on the Pavilion Stage by band Autumn for Kings.  The following day on Sunday 22nd there will be another concert at the same time and place by FisherKing.

Competition is expected to kick off at 8am on Saturday 21st November with ‘The Alley’ at North Cronulla Beach the prime event venue. For the confirmed contest location, please call the Surfing NSW Event Hotline – 0458 247 212 after 6:30am each day of the event.
