PLA Ends 2009 Season, Sends out a Big Thank You to All Sponsors
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 November, 2009 : - - The Professional Longboard Association, which finished its 2009 season this past weekend in Oceanside, CA, is pleased to announce a successful season, and is in the final stages of finalizing its 2010 schedule. The schedule will be announced officially early next week on the PLA website. surfpla.com.
“We have been really lucky this year, the way the economy has treated all of us, it did surprise me we made it through the season without any large speed bumps. Our 2009 season couldn’t have worked out any better, but I am definitely excited to announce this 2010 schedule as we have some very exciting things in the works”, said Jeff Stoner, Executive Director of the PLA.
The PLA, who just in the second year of its organization, was able to develop and execute a full ASP WLT qualifying series here in the United States, helping crown the North American Champion. “The season was definitely a stressful one this year, and we definitely could not have started and completed the season without the help of all our great sponsors”, Stoner continues.
The PLA saw support in Women’s division all year long from Gidget Worldwide, which in its first year back in the surfing industry, has become a force to be reckoned with in the Women’s Clothing category. “Gidget not only brought a face to our women’s division, but also to our promotions within the surfing community”, adds Jeff Stoner. Gidget helped crown the PLA’s first Women’s PLA Champion, by awarding Cori Schumacher (USA) with the PLA Pro Champion Trophy.
Other PLA sponsors in 2009 included companies such as; Costa Del Mar Sunglasses, Clif Bar, Yakult Probiotic, NoHo Surf Trainer, Fit 2-together.com, Hawaiian Island Creation, Kicker Audio, Verve Energy Drink, California Solar Innovations, and Vitamin Water. The PLA is currently in search of 2010 sponsors, and looks forward to working with current sponsors next year and in the future.
