Stoked Action Sports Youth Non Profit honors Rob Dyrdek

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 November, 2009 : - - Los Angeles -- The holidays are a time give back to those in need and Stoked Mentoring continues to echo this sentiment with their inaugural Los Angeles fundraising event  “Stoked Spirit of the Holidays.”  Bringing together more than five hundred celebrities, athletes, action sports supporters and musicians this year’s event will take place at the Milk Studios on December 5th, 2009 from 7pm-11pm.

Entering it’s fourth year in Los Angeles, the mission of Stoked Mentoring is to empower disadvantaged youth through combining the power of mentoring with the activity of non-traditional sports. Hosted by E! Network’s and ESPN’s X Games commentator Sal Masekela, the event is designed to celebrate and honor the mentors, mentees, and supporters in and out of the action sports industry while cultivating financial support for the rapidly growing Stoked Mentoring programs.

By nearly doubling the number of mentoring pairs Stoked provides each year and with a new after-school program in Los Angeles slotted for 2010, Stoked continues to need the support of donors to serve the children of under-resourced neighborhoods.

This year, Stoked Mentoring is also proud to present the inaugural “Stoked Spirit Award” to professional skateboarder and philanthropist Rob Dyrdek whose contributions to skateboarding and the community is reflected through his tireless non-profit work.  The holiday event will feature music from KCRW’s own Garth Trinidad, an award winning DJ, who will no doubt bring a set of masterful urban alternative music to the soiree.  Additionally, jazz- infused LA darlings Big Moves myspace.com/bigmovesband will keep the night moving with their danceable tracks.

For more information on the event plus news on how to donate or become a mentor please visit: stoked.org/spirit09. Stoked Mentoring would like to recognize our generous sponsors Monster Energy Drink and Milk Studios.

About Stoked Mentoring: Founders Steve Larosiliere and Sal Masekela believed that the courage and perseverance needed to learn action sports would be an ideal way to teach those life skills to at –risk and disadvantaged youth. Stoked is a youth development program that utilizes the power of non-traditional sports and mentoring to create successful teens. The 1-year comprehensive program uses the core board sports (snowboarding, skateboarding, and surfing) combined with mentoring to give youth necessary life skills to succeed.

Stoked Mentoring, Inc., which has programs in New York City and Los Angeles, has developed partnerships with a vast array of schools, action sports companies and Fortune 500 corporations. Stoked events have been covered by Fuel TV, ESPN, E! Daily 10 Show, and Zex Sports.  Fully funded by corporate support and private donations, Stoked Mentoring, Inc. is a privately run non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
