Jordan Lawler wins the 2009 Rip Curl Grom Search Presented by SNICKERS against Australia's best junior surfers
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 November, 2009 : - - West Team Rider Jordan Lawler wins event 5 of the 2009 Rip Curl Grom Search Presented by SNICKERS against Australia’s best under 14 and under 16 year old grommets in South Australia at Waitpinga Beach near Victor Harbor.
The blustery conditions didn't hamper the sprits or surfing ability of the nations best under 16 year old grommets, with all of the seventy competitors showing enthusiasm right through out the competition, with many surfing across multiple age divisions.
Jordan Lawler had a cracker of a day taking out both the under 14 and the under 16 boys divisions. In the 16's final Lawler, the grommet from Narrabeen in NSW put together a solid 14.33 combined wave total. Lawler defeated Soli Bailey of Suffolk Park, NSW with 12.70, Jack Scollard, NSW with 10.83 and Bodi Smith also of Narrabeen with 10.36.
"I am so stoked, I have never done this before" said Jordan. "All of the boys were ripping so this is really cool to win, the grom search is one of the best comps going around". Jordan took the under 14 boys down to the wire, just nudging past Kai Hing of the Sunshine Coast, QLD with 11.13, Jackson Baker with 11.06 and Soli Bailey on 7.43.
West team rider Mack Baddack, was the stand out South Australian surfer, coming unstuck on his title assault in the quarter finals. Eventual ratings winners of the 14's divisions will get a two board quiver from one of Rip Curl's leading shapers, DHD. All winners of the 16's division get an invite to Bell's Beach, Victoria for the National Final. Following on from last year, the highest placed non event winner on the GromSearch Ratings will also get an invite.
