O'Neill World Cup of Surfing/Vans Triple Crown of Surfing off todaay due to Thankgiving holiday
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 November, 2009 : - - The O'Neill World Cup of Surfing is off today due to the Thanksgiving holiday. A massive swell in the 15–to-18-foot (5-6 metre) range slammed in to Oahu’s North Shore on Wednesday and forced event officials to call the contest off for the day. The next day it could run now is Friday.
“Of all the places in the world, this is one where you call a contest off because it’s ‘too big’ rather than ‘too small’,” Randy Rarick, Vans Triple Crown Contest Director, said. “We’ve got 15-to-18-foot surf conditions that are expected to build throughout Wednesday, and it’s closing out Sunset Beach so obviously too big for competition. It will be a day for Waimea today.

The waiting period for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, The O'Neill World Cup,of Surfing and the Gidget Pro womens event, kicked off 24 November. A decreasing swell was on offer that day. Solid surf is projected throughout the remainder of the waiting period. Event organizers at Sunset Beach called a lay day for competition on Tuesaday.
