Joel Centeio Continues Dream Run at O'Neill World Cup of Surfing   |   Highlights video

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 November, 2009 : - - Sunset Beach, Oahu, Hawaii – The dream run of Reef Hawaiian Pro champion Joel Centeio continued today as he advanced through the round of 128 of the O'Neill World Cup of Surfing - stop #2 of the men's Vans Triple Crown of Surfing presented by Rockstar Energy Drink.

Centeio posted the top individual wave score today and remains undefeated in the 2009 Vans Triple Crown, having won all seven heats he surfed at Haleiwa, and now his opener at Sunset Beach.

"There's a little bit of pressure because I really want to (win the Vans Triple Crown) for Hawaii," said Centeio, 26."At the same time, this is a new event, starting from round one and I just wand to stay focused and get busy in the heats. I'm really excited." Centeio posted a top ride of 8.5 out of 10 and finished with a final two-wave heat score of 13.0.

The only surfer to score higher in the first round was Uruguay's Marco Giorgi, with 13.57 points. Giorgi is also through to the round of 96. He eliminated one of Hawaii's most promising talents, Hank Gaskell, who won the ASP 2-star World Qualifying Series rated Xcel Pro just a few weeks back.

Coming up in the next men's round will be Tanner Gudauskas (CA), Nathan Yeomans (CA), Drew Courtney (Aus), Brandon Jackson (Sth Africa), and Andy and Bruce Irons (HI).

The Gidget Pro Sunset Beach & O'Neill World Cup of Surfing officials will reconvene tomorrow for a 7am to make a call on the day's proceedings.
