RIP CURL'S STEPHANIE GILMORE CLAIMS THIRD CONSECUTIVE ASP WORLD TITLE

First surfer ever, male or female, to claim ASP World Title the first three years competing

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 December, 2009 : - - Costa Mesa, CA (November 30, 2009): Historic. Rip Curl's Stephanie Gilmore has become the first surfer, male or female, to claim the ASP World Title the first three years competing on the elite ASP World Tour.

By notching a third place finish at the Gidget Pro Sunset Beach, Steph sealed what is undisputedly regarded as the pinnacle of competitive surfing: an ASP World Title.

"It's surreal to win for a third time," Gilmore said. "It's amazing! I woke up this morning and knew it was going to be a good day. The waves were building and you sort of get that fuzzy feeling throughout the day. I really don’t even know what to think about it. I just want to thank everyone for the support that I’ve had throughout the whole year.”

For Steph, it's been a year of consistency in competition, and living new experiences during the downtime. The 21 year-old natural footer spent 3 months in the middle of the year living in Orange County, CA working a video blog site with Rip Curl (www.ripcurl.com/stephintheus) where she documented trips to New York, surf strikes to Mexico, and much more.

Additionally, Steph was crowned SURFER Poll Winner for 2009, a first for her career. And with one event remaining for the 2009 Vans Triple Crown, Steph will no doubt be looking to cement this year with a Triple Crown title as well (she currently sits in 2nd behind Rip Curl teammate Alana Blanchard).

Stay tuned to www.ripcurl.com for more on this amazing accomplishment by Steph Gilmore
