The holding  period begins for the 6th Annual Keep the Ocean Blue North Shore Tow-In Champs

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 December, 2009 : - - This year's '6th Annual Keep the Ocean Blue North Shore Tow-In Surf Championship 2009/2010' holding period will officially begin on December 15, 2009 and continue through March 31, 2010. The main event is to be held on one full 8 hour day only during the 14 week holding period.

If conditions are right there will be a paddle-in surfing exhibition division to be held preferably at Outside Avalanche and not at the dangerous line-up outside of Puaena Point. The Tow-In Division will take place at Puaena Point and/or Avalanche depending on the swell conditions, size and direction on the biggest and best day during the 2009/2010 Big Wave Season!

The KTOB North Shore Tow-In 2010 is an invitational event based mainly on placings at all past  North Shore Tow-In events, world wide tow-in results, world wide media coverage and more.

The 2007-2008 event was not held however view footage of the day considered for running at northshoretowin.com. On friday the 13th of March, 2009 a massive north swell closed out the North Shore and the 5th annual event was not held.

Keep the Ocean Blue is an environmental project designed by contest director Alec Cooke. Cooke swam about 100 miles around Oahu in 10 days to raise awareness regarding conditions of our near shore reef and water conditions.

Tow-In Swells Predicted

What  is being predicted as the biggest series of swells ever to hit the Hawaiian Islands has tow-in surfers plotting their arrival on Oahu's North Shore! Forecasters are expecting a series of massive swells starting around the first of 2010.

Partly because of El Nino, waves could potentially be bigger than Waimea Bay can hold and only select outside reefs will be rideable. December, January, February and March could produce some of the largest waves ever witnessed in Hawaii. Waves heights could reach the 60 to 80 foot range!

The contest is mobile to some of the biggest outer reefs if it closes out the Haleiwa outside venues of Avalanche and Puaena Point. The contest head-quartes is located between the main boat ramp and the Haleiwa Alii Beach Park lifeguard tower.
