Tyler Larronde surprised the world at JAWS (HW) on December 25th  |  en francias ci dessous

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 January, 2010 : - - Tyler Larronde, only 15 years old and son of the French big wave rider Michel Larronde, surprised the world on December 25th by braving a solid 20 feet Jaws in Mauï (HW).

Mostly seen in Laird Hamilton’s movies, JAWS is considered as one of the most impressive and dangerous wave in the world.Tyler was sitting behind his dad’s jet-ski who was doing a bit of tow-in with his friends at JAWS on December 25th... Then Michel asked around: “who wants to go next?” and Tyler proposed right away to have a go …

Recently, nine times World Champion Kelly Slater asserted during "le Grand Journal” of Canal+ (french famous tv show) that he considers JAWS as one of the most difficult and dangerous wave in the world. Tyler’s performance will stay in the history of the famous surf spot by being the youngest surfer to ride the wave at that size with the coolness and the relaxed style that reminds of his dad Michel Larronde (ex member of the french team and respected big wave rider).

Tyler Larronde was born in 1994 in Kahului (Mauï) and belongs to “La Grande Plage Surfclub” in Biarritz (France). He won his first event at 6 years old and has been winning the under 14 years old category in Mauï for the last 3 years.

Michel Larronde is from the Basque Country (Bayonne) and was part of the European Surf scene of the eighties. Then, he moved to Mauï where he created his surfboard brand (Makila) and also worked as a chief in the best restaurants of the island. Since 1994, he surfs JAWS with another Rip Curl team member and big wave rider, his partner Vincent Lartizien.

Tyler Larronde 15 ans, défie JAWS le 25 décembre dernier…

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 January, 2010 : - - Tyler Larronde, à peine 15 ans et fils du surfer biarrot Michel Larronde, a étonné la communauté Surf International en s’attaquant à des vagues de 20 pieds sur le célèbre spot de « gros » à Mauiï (Hawaii) : JAWS.

Sur-médiatisée à travers les films de Laird Hamilton, JAWS est considérée (comme son nom l’indique aussi) comme l’une des plus impressionnante et dangereuse vague du monde.

C’est remorqué en Tow-In par son père Michel que Tyler s’est lancé sur des vagues énormes. « Nous étions avec des amis et au bout d’un moment je leur ai demandé : à qui le tour ? C’est Tyler qui a levé le doigt le premier… » raconte son père encore surpris. Récemment, le 9 fois champion du monde Kelly Slater affirmait dans une interview accordée au Grand Journal de Canal+ considérer JAWS comme l’une des vagues les plus dangereuses au monde.

Tyler Larronde  rentre ainsi dans l’histoire du spot. C’est le plus jeune surfeur à se mesurer à « la mâchoire » avec une aisance et une nonchalance qui ne sont pas sans rappeler le style de son père, le biarrot Michel Larronde ancien membre de l’équipe de France (de 1976 à 1984) et surfer reconnu de grosse vagues.

Tyler est né en 1994 à Kahului (Mauï) et est licencié à « La Grande Plage Surf Club ». Il remporte sa première compétition à 6 ans et le titre de meilleur junior de moins de 14 ans à Mauï en 2007, 2008 et 2009.

Michel Larronde est le plus biarrot des bayonnais (né à Bayonne et supporter de l’Aviron Bayonnais… mais adhérent au Surf Club de la Grande Plage). Il a marqué le surf français des années 80 avant de déménager à Mauï (Hawaii) où il a exercé en tant que shaper (Makila Surfboards) et "Chef" dans les meilleurs restaurants de l’île. Depuis 1994, il surf Jaws avec son partenaire, également membre du team Rip Curl, Vincent Lartizien.
