WSA Gatorade Championship Tour Event #5
Midget Smith Memorial Pier Rat Challenge

San Clemente Pier
January 9 & 10, 2010

Western Surfing Association Gatordade Championship Tour San Clemente results

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 January, 2010 : - - The Western Surfing Association Gatordade Championship Tour came home to San Clemente last weekend for the 2nd Annual Midget Smith Memorial Pier Rat Challenge.  Midget was a beloved icon of surfing worldwide.  He was a shaper, judge, mentor, friend and father who lost his battle with cancer in August of 2008.  Midget was smiling down on the event as a significant WNW swell and “Rose Parade” perfect southern California weather graced the event.

In the Friends of Midget Open Division, Jason Starr of Laguna Niguel took the win.  At noon on Saturday, thirty plus friends hit the water for a memorial paddle-out.  The weekend was a happy remembrance of Midget with nearly 400 competitors in 26 divisions surfing dawn ‘til dusk for two days with double areas all day on Sunday.

The Kicker Audio High Wave Score of the Day prizes went to Heather Jordan (6.0) and Daren Collins (8.83) in the adult divisions and Rachael Tilly (8.33) and Daniel Tieman (9.0) in the youth divisions.  Each received an insane Kicker iDock Stereo System for their efforts.  Sticky Bumps was on hand with their DayGlo surf wax running a wax art contest all day.  The kids went Picasso with some very imaginative results!

Results are below.  Next up is Huntington Beach Pier, January 30 -31, 2010.  Go to www.SurfWSA.orgto register before it fills up
