Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 February, 2010 : - - The perfect waves of Señoritas and Caballeros will see over 200 surfers as members of their National Surfing Teams compete for medals in one of the world’s greatest surfing events  It’s official, the 2010 Billabong ISA World Surfing Games will be held in the perfect waves of Señoritas and Caballeros, Punta Hermosa, Peru, from October 21 until the 29, 2010.

After reviewing the list of applying nations, the ISA considered Peru to be the perfect location for the 2010 edition of the event. ISA President, Fernando Aguerre stated: “Peru, the birthplace of Latin American surfing has some of the best waves in the world. After the successful ISA World Masters Surfing Championship in 2008, the ISA is looking forward to a great Billabong ISA World Surfing Games in 2010.”

Señoritas and Caballeros is a perfect setting for an ISA event as there are both perfect and consistent left and right pointbreaks that work at the same time and are close to each other. The breaks are located in the famous surfing town of Punta Hermosa, which also has the necessary infrastructure to hold an event of this magnitude.

The Peruvian Surfing Federation is accustomed to organizing world-class surfing events including a historic ISA World Masters Surfing Championship in 2008 that had perfect six-foot waves every single day.  In addition, they organized a successful edition of the Pan American Surfing Games in 2006 and have hosted a stop for the ASP Women’s World Tour since 2007.

Karín Sierralta, Executive Director of the Peruvian Surfing Federation and ISA Vice President, showed his excitement after being notified that Peru won the bid by saying: “We are proud to be selected to host an ISA Open World Championship in Peru after 45 years. In 1965, Peru held the World Surfing Championship and the local Peruvian star, Felipe Pomar won the event, becoming an ISA World Champion. We’re looking forward to getting another title at home.”

For the second year in a row, leading surf wear brand Billabong will be the title sponsor of this enormous Olympic Style event. Paul Naude, Billabong USA President, commented: "Billabong's involvement in our inaugural ISA World Surfing Games in Costa Rica was an eye-opener.  The talent, passion, camaraderie and team spirit was fantastic and refreshing in the modern era of competitive surfing.  We are very excited about what the event in Peru will deliver."

The Billabong ISA World Surfing Games will see over 30 countries and over 200 surfers competing in the Open Men, Open Women and Longboard divisions. The date and venue are set; now teams must start getting ready for one of the biggest events of our sport.

Es oficial, la edición 2010 de los Billabong ISA World Surfing Games será realizada en las perfectas olas de Señoritas y Caballeros en el balneario de Punta Hermosa, Perú desde el 21 de hasta el 29 de octubre del 2010.

Luego de revisar la lista de naciones aspirantes para realizar el campeonato, la ISA decidió que Perú es la locación perfecta para la edición 2010 del evento. Su Presidente, Fernando Aguerre comentó: “Perú, la cuna del surfing en América Latina cuenta con varias de las mejores olas del mundo. Luego de la exitosa realización del ISA World Masters Surfing Championship en el 2008, la ISA confía que tendremos un espectacular Billabong ISA World Surfing Games en el 2010”.

Señoritas y Caballeros es un lugar perfecto para la realización de un evento de la ISA, puesto que son dos consistentes pointbreaks de izquierdas y derechas, respectivamente, que quiebran al mismo tiempo y están cerca el uno del otro. Los picos están localizados en el famoso balneario de Punta Hermosa, que cuenta con la infraestructura necesaria para realizar un evento de esta magnitud. 

La Federación Nacional de Tabla, Autoridad Gobernante del Surfing en Perú, está acostumbrada a realizar eventos de clase mundial que incluyen el histórico ISA World Masters Surfing Championship 2008 que tuvo olas de un mínimo de seis pies todos los días. Además, ellos organizaron una exitosa edición de los Juegos Panamericanos de Surf en el 2006 y desde el 2007 llevan adelante una etapa del Circuito Mundial Femenino de la ASP.

Karín Sierralta, Director Ejecutivo de la Federación Nacional de Tabla y Vicepresidente de la ISA se mostró feliz luego de enterarse que Perú había sido elegido como sede del mundial. “Estamos orgullosos por haber sido elegidos como anfitriones de un Mundial Abierto de la ISA después de 45 años. En 1965, Perú realizó el Campeonato Mundial de Surf y la estrella local, Felipe Pomar ganó el evento, convirtiéndose en Campeón Mundial de la ISA. Estamos ansiosos esperando ganar otro título en casa”, comentó Sierralta.

Por segundo año consecutivo, la marca líder del surfing mundial, Billabong será el patrocinador principal de este enorme campeonato de estilo olímpico. Paul Naude, Presidente de Billabong en Estados Unidos dijo al respecto:

“El compromiso de Billabong en nuestros primeros ISA World Surfing Games en Costa Rica nos abrió los ojos. El talento, la pasión, la camaradería y el espíritu de equipo fue una experiencia fantástica y refrescante dentro de la era moderna del surfing competitivo. Estamos muy felices por lo que el evento en Perú le dará al mundo”.

Los Billabong ISA World Surfing Games verán a más de 200 surfistas de más de 30 países compitiendo en las categorías Open Hombres, Open Damas y Longboard. La fecha y el lugar se han establecido; llegó la hora de que los equipos comiencen a prepararse para uno de los más grandes eventos de nuestro deporte.
