Camp Coastalwatch Throws a Wave of Support to Developing Surfers

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 February, 2010 : - - Australia’s leading web cam and surf forecasting resource Coastalwatch have partnered with Surfing Australia for 'Camp Coastalwatch' which will be aimed at the development of junior surfers.

Camp Coastalwatch will sponsor sixteen Australian surfers to attend a three day surf camp from March 24th to 26th at the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (HPC) on Casuarina Beach in Northern New South Wales. The camp will include a world class coaching program, accommodation, catering & food and a silicon coach DVD for each participant.

Eligible applicants for Camp Coastalwatch will need to be 16 years of age or under, are yet to experience success at elite competitions and have no financial sponsorship arrangements.

Surfing Australia CEO Andrew Stark commented on the new imitative saying,  “It is great to see further support given to the development of surfing in Australia, especially at a grassroots level.”

“Camp Coastalwatch is aimed at up-skilling athletes who are close to competitive success but may need professional coaching to make the next step....The coaching at the HPC has the potential to jump start a professional career in surfing.”

By exposing the selected surfers to the programs offered by the HPC, Camp Coastalwatch aims to increase each athletes’ chance of competition success by focusing on:

• Wave usage

• Surfers technique

• Surf specific fitness training

• Competition preparation and strategies

• Education on “how to surf to judging criteria”

• Wave selection, time management, psychological approach and competition analysis

For further information on Camp Coastalwatch please contact the Surfing Australia HPC on hpc@surfingaustralia.com or phone (02)66749868. Applications for Camp Coastalwatch close on March 1st 2010.
