Steph heads for Laureus World Sports Awards in the United Arab Emirates
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 March, 2010 : - - Roxy Pro champion Stephanie Gilmore will trade the surf and sand of Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast for the deserts of Abu Dhabi, with her sights now set on winning one of the highest honours in world sport.
After powering to victory in the season-opening women's world tour event on Saturday, the `smiling assassin' will jet out bound for the Laureus World Sports Awards in the United Arab Emirates.
Gilmore is a finalist and highly fancied to take out the Action Sportsperson of the Year award. She has been nominated for the past two years, losing to American snowboarding phenomenon Shaun White in 2008 and surfing superstar Kelly Slater in 2009.
Gilmore is up against fellow Gold Coast surfing world champ Mick Fanning, French windsurfer Antoine Albeau, American skateboarder Chris Cole, American big wave surfer Greg Long and UK trials cyclist Danny MacAskill.
She is hoping it is a case of third time lucky.
