A Frame Pro Cup
Surfing Federation of Sri Lanka Main Point Hikkaduwa 6 - 7 March 2010
Six surfing clubs take part in competition
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 March, 2010 : - - The recently contested A Frame Pro Cup held at Main Point Hikkaduwa in clean one metre waves showcased an exceptional display of young Sri Lankan surfing talent. More than 50 local surfers from 6 surf clubs along the south and eastern seabords of Sri Lanka competed in the Cup in Open division heats all weekend. The surfing clubs represented were Arugam Bay, Narigama, Weligama, Mirissa, Unawatuna and A Frame from Hikkaduwa. The regular annual event was this year hosted by reigning champions the A Frame Surf Club.
Organised by local Hikkaduwan surfing identity Sandika (Mambo) Thushara from Mambo Surf Tours this year's A Frame Pro Cup was hotly contested over two days until only the two local Sri Lankan powerhouse surf clubs remained - Arugam Bay and A Frame from Hikkaduwa, The four finalists went head to head, wave for wave in an epic battle that held its drama until the dying seconds in clean head- high conditions in front of the Hikkaduwa Surf School headquarters at Main Point. When the spray settled, the two clubs could not be separated by the judges, and so were declared a tie. Arugam Bay surfer and Sri Lanka's No 1 competitor Assanka and A Frame surfer Babaya, shared first place honours.
