Rico & Sarah Take Win and ITSA WTT Ratings Lead at Kiwi Surf Festival WTT3*
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 July, 2010 : - - Biscarosse, France - Rico Leroy & Sarah Burel(FRA), have claimed their ITSA elite victory, taking out the Kiwi Surf Festival over the new ISA world Champ Clement Cetran & Dhelia Birou (FRA) and Clay & Kristen Huntington (USA), Jeremy Boisson & Julie Desarnaud (FRA) in front of a capacity hometown crowd.
Event No. 5 of 11 on the 2010 ITSA World Tandem Tour, the Kiwi Surf Festival was nothing but cheering and roars from the bluff as these four titans went tit-for-tat in an incredible Final exchange. The French team (Rico & Sarah) proved the victor, dominating from the outset and securing an emotional WTT second win.
This is a very good day, Rico said. The crowd on the beach has been supporting us from the semis and hearing the cheers just gets us fired up to perform. It feels like they re pushing us along. We couldn t have done it without them.
The most experienced Tandem team on the tour, Leroy & Burel left very little to chance in the Final, opening their account with a blazing 14.59 before backing it up with some scintillating forehand surfing for a 18.04. The combination of scores (16.96 out of a possible 20) proved insurmountable for the others finalists.
We knew the swell was dying and we had to take advantage of every wave that came through, Leroy said. Clement (Cetran) is such a dangerous surfer. They ve been in form all day and we knew that if they got the waves, they would get the scores. We went out there knowing we had to open up strong.
After taking the ratings lead over ISA World Tandem Champion Clement & Dhelia (FRA), today, Rico & Sarah solidified their position as the ITSA World No. 1 with today s emphatic victory. It definitely is a different feeling, Rico said. To be chasing the lead and defending the lead are two different things. It s a long year ahead and you can t count anyone out until it s over. We are going to enjoy this feeling for now.
We haven t surfed like this for so long with Rico s knee & ribs injuries at the begining of the season. Sarah said. We got that first one where we did Shoulder Stand/ Accro/ Small Arrow/ Cobra/ POP that we didn t think was that good, but the judges scored the whole wave pretty well. Then we backed it up and put everything we had into it.
We surfed very well today but the best of the all thing is the atmosphere beetween all the competitors. We are like a big familly with the same passion of Tandem Surfing. Everybody help each other with new lifts on land before to get in the water. The French teams are getting better at every contest and we may have 3 good teams at the Aloha Cup in Makaha in November. We have to defend our TEAM 2nd place from last year. Said Rico
Clement & Dhelia (FRA) climb to the Finals was nothing short of sensational. Rated 1st on the ITSA World Tandem Tour Title Race after their victory in lacanau , rankings heading into Biscarosse, the 2007 ITSA Dream Tour rookies powered s way through semi before coming short in the Final. Their Runner-Up finish sees them bumped up to ITSA World No. 2, well inside the safety zone to pretend for the 2010 World Tour title.
The ocean didn't cooperate with us this time in the Final so that s a shame but we couldn t be happier, Clement said. We had amazing waves and to get the third best result of our career is huge. Opening their account with a good 12,30 before backing it up with a great 14,59 and then their 3rd wave and best one of their heat ,16,04 (15,31 for their combination of scores).
