ASP Grade-1 Nikita Pro Junior Sopelana Kicks-off Thursday in the Basque Country

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 July, 2010 : - - Coming from a successful first event on the ASP European Junior tour, he ASP caravan is set for a fresh start as the ASP Grade-1 Men and Women Nikita Pro Junior Sopelana kicks-off tomorrow Thursday, July 29 in the Basque Country.

Packed with over 150 competitors from all over Europe including current ratings’ leaders Medi Veminardi (REU) and Pauline Ado (FRA) as well as all local Basque competitors looking to create some upset against the top seeds, the ASP Grade-1 Nikita Pro Junior will witness top level action from Day 1 of competition.

With a first call set at 7.30 AM for all athletes of Rounds 1 and 2 to make the most out of the expected waves, both ASP officials and surfers will meet for a possible 8 AM start.

"The surf fore is looking tough so we’ve decided to gather everyone on Day 1 and try and run as much heats as possible of the men’s event so we get to Friday with a bit more confidence. But we’ll do all it takes to wrap things up in good conditions," ASP Europe Tour Manager Robert Gunning said.

Second event of four for the men’s division and second-to-last stop towards the women’s regional junior title, the Nikita Pro Junior Sopelana will see the title pressure dramatically increase with big names all looking at the year-end possibilities.

Renowned for ist consistency and past editions which saw some classic battles take place on its beachbreaks, Sopelana’s main beach will once again offer an exciting show to the usual thousands of summer holiday crowds.

"The Nikita Pro Junior Sopelana has become one of the most poplualr events on tour and always has full formats of competition. It’s great to see the ASP caravan back to Sopelana and with only four events on the men’s tour and just two remaining for the girls before the regional titles are allocated, things are going to be exciting," ASP Europe Regional Manager Greg Puget said."

CHECK-IN TIME: 7.30 AM for Men’s Round of 128, Round of 96 and Round of 64
WHERE: Sopelana, Basque Country/Euskadi
WHEN: Event runs from July 28 through to August 1, 2010

Updates will be made on the event’s webpage shortly after Round 1 kicks-off.
