Jesus Surf Classic
Christian Surfers Assn UK Croyde Bay, North Devon 11 - 12 September 2010
18th running of the Jesus Surf Classic coming to North Devon again
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 July, 2010 : - - The Jesus Surf Classic comes to its North Devon home once again, over the weekend of 11th – 12th September with increased prize money, and a new Groms ( U12 ) division, and the mobile Skatepark. This hugely successful surf contest has been running for 18 years and this year’s competition looks like being another great event.
The Jesus Surf Classic is organised and run by Christian Surfers UK and this year there is over £1600 of prize money to be shared between the eight categories, with the Open men’s surfing champion receiving £300. Last year’s event was over-subscribed with over 150 entries so contestants are being advised to get their entry forms in early.
As an acknowledgement of the increasing number of young surfers coming through, and to encourage their development, the event for the 1st time will be holding a Groms ( U12 ) division. All competitors this year will also be getting a limited edition DVD of eight of the most recent Jesus Surf Classic contests. It all promises to be a great weekend.
As before, over 100 Christian Surfers volunteers from around the country will be involved in organising the weekend, making it ideal for competitors, supporters, and of course their families. There will be a skate park, marquee and BBQ, and surf and skate movies will be shown on the large screen throughout the weekend. There will be a Big Move skateboard competition on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the purpose-built skate park. We are looking forward to seeing lots of skaters coming down to this event once again.

The standard of surfing is always very high, with Woolacombe’s local, Stuart Campbell, winning the Men’s event last year, and St Ives Tassy Swallow taking victory in the Women’s division, along with a nice cheque and large trophy. However, it is also a great opportunity for those wishing to enter their first competition to get involved.
We have agreed a 2½ day special rate for the Ruda campsite with Parkdean Holidays for competitors and their supporters. This means that you can stay on your pitch for all of Sunday. When booking your camping pitch, mention that you are a competitor and get the special rate. We are grateful once again to Parkdean Holidays for their support.
The Jesus Surf Classic has become one of the biggest and longest running surf contests in the UK, and Christian Surfers UK are once again very much looking forward to hosting it at one of the best beach breaks on the North Coast, Croyde Bay.
To enter the event either pick up an entry form from your local surf shop, or check out the website christiansurfers.co.uk. Also look out for the Jesus Longboard Classic which will be running on October 16-17 and will consist of Open, Women’s, and Master’s and Junior categories. This stand-alone contest, which has been running since 2007, will be held at Polzeath, North Cornwall.
