Opening of the Reg Mombassa: Selected Works Exhibition

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 July, 2010 : - - Over the past 30 years Chris O'Doherty, aka Reg Mombassa, has maintained a successful career as a musician and visual artist. O'Doherty is best known for his involvement with the Australian rock band 'Mental as Anything' and for his graphic designs for the Australian surf wear brand Mambo.

O'Doherty explores the Australian psyche through his use of religious and political content and themes of popular culture. The use of colour and wickedly absurd humour are now synonymous with O'Doherty's work and the Australian surfing culture. Beneath the humour and satire are insightful explorations of social and political concern.

Complimenting O’Doherty’s eclectic art will be a selection of vintage and retro surfboards from the extensive collection of Mark Ingleby from Emerald Beach. Ingleby has selected a number of unrestored boards featuring original board artwork to display how surfboards became a vehicle for self expression through visual art as well as radical manoeuvres!

To see a preview of Reg Mombassa’s works, go to regmombassa.com
