Trophy will be on display at ASR trade show

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 August, 2010 : - - La Jolla -- The International Surfing Association (ISA), the World Governing Authority of Surfing, announced today that it will debut a new trophy for the World Surfing Games. The trophy will be on display during the ASR Trade Show at the San Diego Convention Center from the 13th to the 15th of August.

Regarding the new trophy, ISA Director General Bob Mignogna said, “From 1964-1972 the ISA (then called ISF) awarded The Eduardo Arena Trophy to the Gold Medal National Team in honor of the ISF founder and president from Peru.  Since 1978, the ISA has presented The Basil Lomberg World Team Trophy to the Gold Medal National Team, named after the ISA president who hailed from South Africa.  After 32 years, The Basil Lomberg Trophy will be retired.”

Today, the ISA is proud to announce the introduction of The Fernando Aguerre ISA World Team Trophy, which will be awarded to the World Champion and Gold Medal winning National Team at the 2010 Billabong ISA World Surfing Games to be held in Punta Hermosa, Peru this coming October. “The ISA is proud of all that has been accomplished during President Aguerre's 16 year tenure, and it is only fitting to name this prestigious annual award in his honor,” added Mignogna.

The trophy was designed by renowned surf artist, Phil Roberts, and is made of marble, steel and bronze. It represents the ISA and President Aguerre’s ideals about the peaceful worldwide union of nations through surfing.  The trophy was generously donated by Aguerre.

ASR attendees are welcome to visit the ISA exhibit in the Foundation Lounge on the main floor of ASR Access at the San Diego Convention Center during the ASR Trade Show.

About the International Surfing Association (ISA): The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for Surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running world championships since 1964 and the Junior World Championships since 1980. 

ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of over 60 countries on six continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided by Fernando Aguerre, first elected in 1994 in Rio, and re-elected six times since.  The ISA's four Vice Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Mike Gerard (USA) and Karín Sierralta (Peru).

La ISA presenta nuevo trofeo al Equipo Campeón Mundial en el ASR

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 August, 2010 : - - La Jolla -- La International Surfing Association (ISA), autoridad gobernante del surfing en el mundo, anunció hoy que estará presentando un nuevo trofeo para los World Surfing Games. Éste se mostrará por primera vez durante el ASR Trade Show en el San Diego Convention Center desde el 13 hasta el 15 de agosto.

Con respecto al nuevo trofeo, el Director General de la ISA, Bob Mignogna comentó, “De 1964 a 1972, la ISA (antes llamada ISF) premiaba con el Trofeo Eduardo Arena a la nación ganadora de la medalla de oro, en honor al presidente peruano fundador de la ISF. A partir de 1978 la ISA ha premiado con el Basil Lomberg World Team Trophy al seleccionado nacional ganador de la medalla de oro, en lo que hoy llamamos los World Surfing Games. Este trofeo fue nombrado para honrar a aquel presidente nacido en Sudáfrica. Luego de 32 años dicho trofeo será retirado.

Hoy, la ISA se enorgullece en anunciar la introducción del Fernando Aguerre ISA World Team Trophy, que será entregado al equipo Campeón Mundial y ganador de la medalla de oro en el Billabong ISA World Surfing Games 2010 que serán realizados en Punta Hermosa, Perú en octubre. “La ISA se enorgullece de todo lo que se ha logrado durante los 16 años de presidencia de Aguerre, y considera adecuado el nombrar tan prestigioso premio en su honor”, finalizó Mignogna.

El reconocido artista Phil Roberts, diseñó el trofeo. Está hecho con mármol, acero y bronce. Representa los ideales de la ISA del propio Fernando Aguerre: La unión de la hermandad de los surfistas en paz y camaradería sin distinción de color, razas ni religiones en todo el mundo. El trofeo fue generosamente donado por el propio Aguerre.

Todos aquellos que vayan al ASR están invitados al stand de la ISA en el piso principal del San Diego Convention Center durante el ASR Trade Show desde el 13 hasta el 15 de agosto.

Sobre la International Surfing Association (ISA): La International Surfing Association (ISA) es reconocida por el Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI) como la Autoridad Gobernante del Surfing en el Mundo. Fue fundada originalmente como la International Surfing Federation en 1964 y ha organizado campeonatos mundiales desde 1964 y desde 1980 campeonatos mundiales juveniles.

Los miembros de la ISA son los Cuerpos Gobernantes Nacionales (siglas en inglés: NGB) en más de 60 países de seis continentes. La Oficina Central está localizada en San Diego, California. Es presidida por Fernando Aguerre, electo por primera vez en Río de Janeiro, 1994 y reelecto seis veces desde ese entonces.  Los cuatro vicepresidentes de la ISA son Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Mike Gerard (Estados Unidos) y Karín Sierralta (Perú).
