Jeremy Flores Performs and Places 3rd in Billabong Pro Tahiti for Best Euro Result

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 September, 2010 : - - Teahupoo, Tahiti, French Polynesia - Jeremy Flores (New Caledonia/Capbreton, FRA), 22, got back to his best last night at the world famous location of Teahupoo placing equal 3rd in the Billabong Pro Tahiti for his best result this year, his second best of his young career.

Coming from an under-pressure start where the French prodigy was threatened by a potential drop out of the reduced 32-man ASP World Tour field, Flores not only secured his spot but managed to shine through the rounds of the prestigious event to end-up with an equal 3rd finish losing to former ASP World Champion CJ Hobgood (USA) in the Semifinals.

“I had priority the last five minutes and a set came that was my chance, but it wasn’t the wave I needed,” Flores said. “The barrel was really small inside, CJ is an excellent and msart surfer and he surfed a smart heat. Still though, it’s great for me and I’m excited for the next event.”

Jumping from 24th to a promising 19th place on the ASP World title race rankings, Flores proved in good form throughout the event eliminating excellent tube-rider Fredrick Patacchia (HAW) in the Quarterfinals and local threat and former event runner-up Manoa Drollet (PYF) in Round 4.

After a series of events with no making it through Round 4 of competition, the former ASP Rookie of the Year (2007) finished the event the best European representative ahead of friends and other inform men Tiago Pires (PRT) and local star Michel Bourez respectively placing equal 5th and equal 9th in the Billabong Pro Tahiti.

A former ASP World Qualifying Series No. 1 (2006) and ASP European Junior Champion (2005), Flores stepped-up against the world’s best and most experienced surfers to smartly advance through to the Semifinals of the event despite the tricky wave-starved conditions.

After former ASP elite member Aritz Aranburu’s (EUK) semifinal last year, Flores is the second European to place equal 3rd in the Billabong Pro Tahiti, a performance that will give the Frenchman some solid confidence before heading to the high-performance wave of Trestles in California and home in France for the Quiksilver Pro France at the end of the month.

With Europe’s three performers on this year’s ASP World title race all secured for the second part of the year and all netting solid results at the Billabong Pro Tahiti, Flores, Pires and Bourez are currently sitting inside the coveted Top 20, the Portuguese surfer from Ericeira Pires leading the crew before the next event.
