6 mile open ocean races run from Crystal Pier to the Jetty and back
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 September, 2015 - The Battle at BeachFest is a unique sporting event that combines Pro Am Surfing with Stand Up and Prone Paddle ocean racing, Social Responsibility, Live Music, & cool beach activities. Elements include a Men's Pro Am Invitational, a 6 mile SUP & Prone Paddle open ocean race, Technical SUP Races, 5 SUP Surf divisions and the Firefighter's Challenge.
The 6 mile open ocean races run from Crystal Pier to the Jetty and back. Not only will the paddlers be competing among themselves but also with some, 1500 5k competitors running alongside on the sand - adding another unique competitive element to this race.
The Firefighter's Challenge is a new shortboard division exclusive to San Diego County Firefighters. As they sign up, Firefighters will call out other individuals or even entire Fire Stations to compete (similar to the infamous Ice Bucket Challenge) All signup fees go directly to the San Diego Burn Institute.
For 5 seasons the Revolt Summer Surf Series has been a signature sporting event at Pacific Beachfest. This year RVLT Surf will kick it up a notch with the RSSS Prime - an Invitational Men's Pro Am. To be eligible, surfers must have competed in at least one of the four RSSS events this summer.
With the final points event of the season coming up soon on September 12, surfers have one chance left to be included in the RSSS Prime. Online signups are recommended - previous events have seen all the Pro Am divisions maxed out. Prize purses for October 3, to be announced. www.revoltsurfseries.com
