4th annual "Surf Dog Surf A Thon" benefiting Helen Woodward Animal Center

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 July, 2009 : - - Surf Dog Clinics (to teach dogs and their, people how to surf safely) begin Saturday, August 8 then continue on Sunday the 16th and Saturday the 22nd at Dog Beach (aka North Beach) in Del Mar.

We'll hold two, 1-hour clinics per morning starting at 9:00 and 10:00 AM. Cost is $45 per dog and each clinic is limited to 25 dogs to assure safety for dogs and owners. Again this year SD Surfing Academy will bring boards for dogs that don't have their own surf boards and help train "humans."

Rob Kuty and SD Pet Training will lend a helping paw with the dog training. World Champion tandem surfer and board designer Guy Takayama returns to provide paws-on instruction in the waves. And members of Swami's Surfing Association will supply their talent and experience to make sure Surf Dog 2009 is fun, safe, and successful.

No more than one dog per person (again...for safety) but we'll have volunteers to help people who have more than one surfing pooch. Last year Helen Woodward Animal Center's Surf Dog Surf A Thon attracted worldwide attention in countries including China, Japan, Russia, Estonia, England, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and Canada.

The Travel Channel's Bridget Marquardt participated with her dog then named Dog Beach one of the world's sexiest beaches because of Surf Dog. It was picked up by National Geographic for Kids.

Animal Planet shot the entire event. Look for Surf Dog in the upcoming surfing documentary, "Board Heads." The three top videos on You Tube were Surf Dog. Surf dog was the #3 video worldwide on the L.A. Times website. CNN, "E" Insider, and Yahoo covered Helen Woodward Animal Center's Surf Dog Surf A Thon. It was the hottest dog story in the world.

THANK YOU to all of our local media who have been with us from the beginning! We wouldn't be here (or remain here) without YOU! Please contact Trisha St. George (x 379) to let us know what we can do to help with your story.
