Nixon announces 4th stop of WTA

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 November, 2008 : - - Nixon is proud to announce the start of the fourth and final stop of the Nixon WTA, which will commence with the 2008 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. Nixon will award the final prize of the year, also the final stop for the 2008 ASP World Tour, to the overall winner of the Vans Triple Crown.

The event starts rolling with the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu, which is taking place now. From there, competition will continue at the O’Neill World Cup of Surfing at Sunset beach from November 24 – December 6, and will culminate at the Billabong Pipeline Masters at Banzai Pipeline December 8 - 20.

“I’m really glad that we are once again able to be part of the Vans Triple Crown and offer the winner such a unique prize,” stated Nixon’s Sports Marketing Manager, Brandon Lillard. “This event represents the highest level of performance from the best surfers in the world and I know the North Shore will deliver the waves to keep it exciting.”

To commemorate surfing’s biggest event of the year, the winner of the Nixon WTA Hawaii will be awarded a custom Nixon 51-30 tide watch with nearly two carats of white baguette diamonds on the bezel crowned with a black onyx countdown timer marker.

The one-of-a-kind watch also features three crowns: a triple gasket screw crown, an easy adjust button to set the tide subdial, and a final crown which houses a compact screw driver to make band adjustments. This timepiece also features a custom-engraved case back along with the names of the three locations of the Vans Triple Crown etched into the side of the case wall.
This year’s WTA has highlighted unique talent with Ryan Hipwood (AUS) winning for riding the heaviest wave at Teahupoo in May, Taylor Knox (USA) taking the title for achieving the highest heat score at J-Bay in July and Royden Bryson (ZAF) claiming victory for the longest tube ride at Mundaka in September.
