Aging sewage infrastructure along US coasts

There´s a crisis of inadequate, aging sewage infrastructure along our
coasts. Public sector entities have not invested in the required
upkeep and expansion of deteriorating sewer lines, pumping stations
and treatment plants.

This problem is especially acute in California
(including Surfrider National Office´s home town of San Clemente),
though this is a serious problem throughout U.S. coastal regions.

Because of the poor infrastructure, sewage spills and leaks
all-too-often reach our coastal waters, endangering the health of
people (swimmers, surfers and other ocean enthusiasts), as well as
marine life.
