ASC Enters Community Partnership with Bali Animal Welfare Assn

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 July, 2014 - Kuta-Bali - The Asian Surfing Championships is proud to announce its support of the Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA) and the valuable work it does for the animals and people of Bali, by forming its first Community Partnership relationship with this amazing non-profit organization. “BAWA is the unsung hero in the fight to stop the inhumane treatment of animals and educate the community here on the Island of the Gods,” says ASC’s Tim Hain.

“With its work to stop the spread of rabies, educate children and adults on how to care for and be kind to animals, sterilization programs, rescuing sick and injured animals and finding good homes for them, BAWA is doing an incredible job... Many of us surfers have pets that are like family members to us, and we know how much having a pet enriches our lives, so we want to support BAWA which does so much to help give God’s creatures the best chance for a good life,” he continued.

Although their surfing activities happen primarily at the beach and in the ocean, the ASC cares about more than just surfing and surfing competitions. “We need a healthy environment so we can enjoy surfing now and in the future, so that means clean oceans, healthy bodies and educated minds. So we think its super important to support environmental and humanitarian organizations like BAWA that are working hard to make a difference here in Bali and beyond, and though we don’t have funds to donate we can give of our time and other resources in order to help out, and I hope this motivates others to do the same,” Hain explained.

In this Community Relationship partnership, the ASC and BAWA will support each other by sharing news and information to their respective audiences via their websites, social media, and media networks, and the ASC is inviting BAWA to attend and exhibit at ASC sanctioned surfing events here on Bali whenever possible. The ASC will also participate in BAWA’s fund raising efforts in order to keep their organization growing.

BAWA’s first beach appearance will be on July 20 at the Billabong-Surfer Girl Grommet Attack (event for junior surfers under 16 years of age) competition on Kuta Beach. Billabong and Surfer Girl have also invited BAWA to attend their remaining events in August and September.

The wonderful people from BAWA will be on hand to explain their many great programs, give advice on proper care for animals, and to show you a gorgeous selection of little puppies and kittens that need loving homes. When you put just Rp 5,000 in the donation box, you’ll provide a nutritious meal for a homeless animal that may save its life. And you might just find a furry friend to bring love and loyalty into your home and life as well.

“BAWA is very excited to work with the surfing community through this new partnership with the ASC,” said BAWA manager Gusti Ngurah Bagus. “The surfing community has a fine reputation for its respect of animals and the environment … so putting ASC and BAWA together makes a perfect match.”

Meet BAWA on Kuta Beach at the Billabong-Surfer Girl Grommet Attack event on Sunday, July 20, and at future ASC-sanctioned surf events.
