Young surfing talent of Papua New Guniea need surfboards
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 October, 2014 - Young Papua New Guineans, aiming to take up surfing, are lacking the most important element - the surf board. Now ABC Newcastle and the PNG Surf Association are seeking donations of fibreglass surfboards from Australia.
So far, their campaign has collected around 150 boards and $2,500 from movie ticket sales.
The President of the PNG Surf Association, Andrew Abel, says despite moving forward with newer fibreglass boards, he hopes to maintain the traditional handmade wooden boards.
