Bali Ball in St Agnes to aid people in Kenya and Cornwall
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 August, 2008 : - - Stars of Hope are having a party on Saturday September 6th at Newdowns, St Agnes from dusk til dawn so come join the fun and help raise money for a good cause.
Stars of Hope is a local, St Agnes based community development project with the aim of helping people in Kenya and Cornwall, ultimately allowing them to help themselves. Last years ball raised funds for a community centre in Nairobi, Kenya that is now home to 30 vulnerable children and employs 10 people in the area. This year the guys are raising money for disabled children and adults in Bali, Indonesia.
Since the Bali Bombings a lot of local people have lost their jobs and livelihood. Thousands of people flock from Cornwall every year to enjoy the hedonistic ambience Bali provides, but whilst we are surfing perfect waves in boardshorts and drinking ice cold beers for 20p what we dont see is the serious malnutrition that pregnant women are suffering which is leading to a huge increase in disabled children being born.
Bali is a third world country and really doesnt know how to deal with this. Sadly a lot of these disabled children get hidden away, however, Stars of Hope came across a man in Udbud Bali who helps a small amount of disabled children in his own time, but they need our help. They need a shelter like the one we have just built in Kenya and thats what we are raising money for.
If you have been to Bali then theres no doubt youll have experienced the infamous Bounty Bar; this is the theme for the SOH Ball 2008. There will be live bands from 6pm and then DJs way into the early hours of the morning. So get your coconuts ready, come join the party and do what the people of Bali do best, SMILE!!
Tickets are £15 which includes camping and can be bought from St Agnes Surf Shop or Quintessential Truro. Bands and Djs to be announced.
