Rip Curl team rider makes trip to Australia and places high
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 January, 2016 - Bali’s newly signed Rip Curl team rider Taina Izquierdo faced her biggest international challenge to date in Western Australia this past week.
Paddling out into rough conditions against not only two of Australia’s hottest under 16’s and her best friend Cinta Hansel, Taina was able to find a series of rare lefts that vaulted her to runner-up on this the second stop of the Aussie “bloodline” series.
“Of course I was going for the win” said the hyper-competitive Taina. “But I did my best in the conditions and it was a great experience for me to compete internationally again”.
Taina, from Padang Padang, Bali, who almost took the 2015 Maldive open title as well, is becoming a major threat to her division. But mature far beyond her 14 years, it’s the future that that she is clearly focused on.
“Competing on this international level is really inspirational. It shows me how far I need to go. Wait…how far I will go”.
A Champion in the making, Taina Izquierdo is obviously a surfer to watch as she shakes up the women’s surfing scene for years to come.
