Queensland and New South Wales surfers battle it out

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 July, 2014 - Gold Coast Coast, Queensland - Day five of the Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp, Presented by Breaka met clean 3ft conditions and excited surfers from all over Australia. With this on offer, spectators were witness to the semi finals of the Kustom Mini-Strike session for the big air competition at Duranbah beach. 

Big stylish airs by Shaun Manners (Margret River, WA), Harley Ross-Webster (North Curl Curl, NSW), Riley Laing (The Entrance North, NSW) and Joe Van Dijk (Smiths Beach, VIC) was enough to take out their semi’s and advance one step closer to the $1000 prize purse and having their names etched alongside world tour surfers such as John John Florence and Chippa Wilson who have also competed in the well known event.

Finals of the Kustom Mini-Strike session will be held tomorrow during the finals of the 11th  annual Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp, Presented by Breaka.  

The 16 and under boys continued to work the groomed right hand bank off the wall at Duranbah with the likes of Quinn Bruce (Coolangatta, QLD), Harley Ross-Webster (North Curl Curl, NSW), Shaun Manners (Margret River, WA), Ethan Ewing (Point Lookout, QLD) and Luke Wrice (Coledale, NSW) all progressing through to the semi-finals.

Finals for the prestigious Billabong Occy’s Grom comp commence tomorrow which will see winners crowned from the 12 and under boys, 14 and under girls, 14 and under boys, 16 and under girls and the blue ribbon 16 and under boys.

Not all focus is on the competition with grommets flooding the beach in their fluoro wetsuits partaking in beach activities with loads of prizes up for grabs. Needless to say the grommets were frothing.

Running in conjunction with the 16 and under boys final will be the Kustom Mini Strike which will see stakes within the blue ribbon final skyrocket as competitors turn to major aerial manoeuvres for their chance at cracking the $1000 winner takes all prize purse.

The 2014 Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp, presented by Breaka will be based at Duranbah on Queensland’s Gold Coast from Saturday 28th June to Thursday 3rd July.
