Mick must defeat former Pipe Master Jeremy to stay in title race

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 December, 2014 - Banzai Pipeline - A lay day has been called at the Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons and there will be no competition today, with only small surf on offer. Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning to assess conditions and make the next call.

"The swell has dropped further today and it's probably the smallest day of the window so far, in the 2 - 3 foot range, so we are off for the day," Kieren Perrow, ASP Commissioner, said. "The good news is the last fetch of swell likely cleared some sand off the reef and the wind is becoming more favorable. It looks like the next swell is coming in on Thursday and Friday so we're shaping up for a good finish. That said, we'll be back tomorrow morning to assess conditions and review the latest swell models to make a decision then."

Gabriel Medina (BRA), Mick Fanning (AUS), and Kelly Slater (USA) are the three remaining World Title contenders and will all surf in elimination Round 3 when competition resumes. Medina will take on Vans Triple Crown of Surfing ratings leader Dusty Payne (HAW), Fanning faces Jeremy Flores (FRA) and Slater will match-up against Alejo Muniz (BRA).

Surfline, official forecaster for the Billabong Pipe Masters, are calling for: Small N swell leftovers prevail on Tuesday. A small WNW swell is on track for Wednesday and Thursday morning, with a fairly solid NW swell on track to rapidly build Thursday afternoon, peak overnight, and trend down through the day on Friday. The final day of the waiting period will see smaller NW swell leftovers. Strong E/ENE tradewinds continue Tuesday, although down a bit from the past couple days, with trades decreasing further on Wednesday. ENE Trades temporarily rebuild Thursday, before easing again on Friday and really coming down for the weekend.
