What could be better than to get a visa for Australia and to move to Margaret River in the deep southwest of the continent Down Under? Europe has incredible waves in abundance. Even Africa, which offers seemingly endless and largely undiscovered wave potential, it is not far from Europe. And even the surfers' mecca Indonesia is much cheaper from Germany than it is to reach than Perth.
The Cape to Cape region between Dunsborough and Augusta, in the center of the legendary Margaret River is located, however, has its own charm. Almost nowhere else in the world are there waves so consistenly good throughout the year.
Even in high summer, when you need a thick groveller or fish in France, for example...eight foot days at Margaret River are absolutely not uncommon. Furthermore, Margaret River has a very relaxed, rural lifestyle and fantastically good wine to quiet French competitors in any way.
Only during the Christmas and Easter holidays, it gets a little hectic here too. Even if there is no swell, real outdoor enthusiasts will never get bored. In my case, for example, free diving has become a new favorite pastime. The marvelous underwater world of the Indian Ocean is totally fascinating, and with some luck you can catch a fine dinner.
