Board of the Week : Darren Handley's DX1 Jack Freestone

Board of the week

Low rocker & single concave highlight new design

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 May, 2016 - We're seeing a challenge to yesteryear's bloated quiver mentality, as there's been a big push lately to design boards that work in a wider variety of waves. This latest 'quiver killer' concept comes from DHD Surfboards.

The DHD DX1, was created for Jack Freestone to use in beachbreaks. He was looking for an easy and forgiving design that worked in both soft waves and hollow waves.

This model has single concave all the way through that gets quite deep through the belly and going into the tail concave. The bottom has a full-flat to medium rocker which is designed to fit in the critical part of the wave and allow for fast direction changes.  Overall the design's aim is to create a board with better control that still goes in the stuff.

The tail has a bit extra kick than found on most models.

From the DHD Factory Website:
Glassing — 4 x 4 x 3/4 ; Rocker — Full Flat to Medium ; Concave — Single ; Carbon — Comp Tail ; Fins — Thruster *Futures & FCS 2 ; Tail — Available in Squash and Round Tail ; This model runs a single concave all the way through that gets quiet deep through the belly into the tail with a smooth plan shape combined with a smooth rocker and a tight super squash tail.
